These crafts that are my tradition to make each year, there is no better way to get into the festival spirit than making and decorating.

Salt Dough Decorations

The perfect way to add a homemade touch to your decor this season, salt dough decorations are so simple, even the pre-schoolers can get involved.

Create your dough using one cup of plain flour, one cup of salt and one cup water. Mix the dry ingredients together, pouring the water but by bit until it mixes together to form a dough. If it’s a bit sticky, simply add some more flour. Roll out the dough using a rolling pin and then get crafty with some festive shape-cutters. Don’t forget to put a hole in the top of the ones you want to hang on the tree using a straw.

Put the shapes on a baking sheet and cook at 100 degrees C for 2-3 hours. When dry, they can be painted and decorated using ordinary paints or acrylics. Use PVA glue when the paint has dried to add any glitter, sequins or beads. Thread with a thin ribbon and hang!

Reinbeer Bottles

Bottle Reindeer

A really simple yet effective way of getting the kids involved in making a present that we are sure a few dads will be more than happy to receive.

All you need to create your reindeer are fluffy pipe cleaners, pom-poms, sticky eyes and some ribbon. You should be able to find all of this in your local craft shop. For a festive twist, we chose red and silver but get creative and create a whole herd of colourful reindeer friends!

Bottles are not limited to beer either, you could even try empty milk bottles filled with maltesers for a child-friendly treat.

Wreath Making

Wreath Making

Nothing is guaranteed to get you more in the Christmas spirit than an afternoon spent wreath-making so get together with friends or family over a mince pie and have a go at making your very own door decoration.
